Beth Goudie & Sam Goudie - 2021
Maggie slowly climbs the stairs,
But she is stronger than her body.
Every step, another picture in a frame.
In her book another name.
She lights a candle for them all.
See it flicker in her window.
Heaven's listening when there's nothing more to say,
so she bows her head to pray.
And as her words take flight,
I kiss my children goodnight.
With every blessing that I find,
I see it's more than a matter of time.
I owe the goodness of my life to Maggie's prayers.
I struck the match that starts the flame.
Smoke and ash inside my bedroom.
My house is burning, didn't think I could be saved,
Will I live to see the day?
I couldn't hear a word she said,
but I still read them in her letters.
"Hold fast to Jesus son, it's better off that way
and it gets better everyday"
And as her words take flight,
I kiss my children goodnight.
With every blessing that I find,
I see it's more than a matter of time.
I owe the goodness of my life to Maggie's prayers.
All before me, but I stood proud,
Then I fell deeper, deeper underground.
But she was faithful, and kept on asking,
"Reach down and pull him out"
I don't know how but something changed,
and when it did I heard the morning.
Faith is certain of the things it's yet to see,
and she saw it all for me.
And as her words take flight,
I kiss my children goodnight.
With every blessing that I find,
I see it's more than a matter of time.
I owe the goodness of my life to Maggie's prayers.
